O reitor Natalino Salgado é médico e sabe das necessidades que a comunidade tem pela falta de hospitais e, principalmente, na falta de formação de médicos comprometidos com a saúde pública. Depois que as universidades deixaram de ser dirigidas pelas ciências sociais e humanas, perdeu a essência da educação superior voltada à pesquisa e a extensão.
As atividades de extensão, na área de saúde, têm forte correlação com as Políticas Públicas, nos três níveis da federação. O Plano Nacional de Extensão Universitária é pouco conhecido, apesar de ter aqui no Maranhão o maior especialista na área e respeito e lido mundialmente sobre o assunto, trata-se do Professor Roberto Mauro.
A extensão se resumiu apenas em estudos internos nas universidades nos cursos de pós-graduação.
É preciso que a UFMA evolua o seu curso de medicina e tenha o objetivo inicial de formar bons médicos para suprir a demanda do Maranhão, que precisa de médicos, principalmente em especializações rentáveis, como é o caso do anestesista, que hoje o estado só dispõe de aproximadamente 50, quantidade que não supri as necessidades do Estado.
Deve haver o compromisso político-social de formar médicos comprometidos com o bem-estar da comunidade, com a preservação do meio ambiente, a implementação de saneamento básico e de um estilo de vida saudável, além da preservação da saúde através de ações de prevenção, bem como com a assistência primária, secundária e terciária da população.
Para acompanhar o desenvolvimento das necessidades da população, a universidade tem que está inserida, isso através da reformulação do currículo do curso de medicina, cujas disciplinas sociais sejam inseridas com maior ênfase. É preciso uma reformulação no projeto pedagógico!!!
Além das novas necessidades da população, o conhecimento médico cresceu em progressão geométrica nesse meio século, exigindo do curso formas cada vez mais eficientes de oferecer, ao estudante, um volume crescente de informações num período de treinamento que não foi proporcionalmente elastecido.
As políticas atuais de saúde procuram reformular este panorama: abandonando a atitude passiva de esperar que o indivíduo adoeça e tomando a iniciativa de vigilância à saúde, estudando e combatendo, na comunidade, todas as causas que levam ao adoecer, quer sejam as condições de trabalho, de habitação, de alimentação, de transporte, de educação, de higiene, de lazer ou de orientação sanitária. O ensino médico deve acompanhar esta realidade, responder às necessidades da comunidade onde está inserido e para a qual prepara seus profissionais. Isso só acontecerá com a prática em sua essência da extensão.
É preciso que os gestores públicos e, principalmente, a população, que os hospitais universitários são unidades acadêmicas tendo por princípios a indissociabilidade entre o ensino, a pesquisa e a extensão, por meio da assistência à população.
As atividades de extensão na grande maioria das unidades acadêmicas não deixam que a penetração da sociedade aconteça em diversos níveis e que tenha êxito na integração Universidade-comunidade.
É de urgência, que a Comissão de Extensão da UFMA tenha a consciência do uso da autonomia da universidade, aparado no artigo 207 da Constituição, e passe a usar o hospital Dutra dentro de sua denominação de alta complexidade, e não usá-lo como se fosse uma sala de aula ou um laboratório no campus.
Um grande exemplo do uso da autonomia e da indissociabilidade em ensino, pesquisa e extensão, e o Hospital Infantil Joana de Gusmão (HIJG), que é pólo de referência no estado de Santa Catarina, no atendimento à saúde de crianças e adolescentes. Atende todas as regiões do estado, nas patologias de maior complexidade, com unidades especializadas em cardiologia, cirurgia (pediátrica geral, plástica, oftalmologia, ortopedia, otorrinolaringologia, urologia), desnutrição, gastroenterologia, nefrologia, neurocirurgia, neurologia, oncologia, queimadura, pneumologia e terapia intensiva.

De acordo com o jornalista, para o órgão o PMDB no Senado indicou o mineiro Helio Costa, candidato a governador de Minas Gerais derrotado na últimas eleições.
A indicação de Dino para Embratur partiu da direção nacional seu partido, o PCdoB, numa articulação envolvendo o ministro da Casa Civil, Antonio Palocci. A agremiação vinha se queixando da reduzida participação no governo da ministra Dilma Rousseff – hoje conta apenas o ministério dos Esportes.
Esta não é a primeira vez que Sarney veta a participação do comunista no governo Dilma Rousseff. Dino também foi barrado no Ministério da Justiça.

Sinceramente, caro Caio, estou completamente decepcionado com essa aliança feita com o PMDB no Maranhão. É muito desprestigio com um aliado tão importante como o PT. Tenho aqui gravado no meu celular, um video do companheiro Washington discursando nos Encontros do PT, onde ele dizia que o Partido pela primeira fez seria respeitado pelo seu valor no Maranhão, que não ficaria na periferia, como ficou no governo Jakson Lago. Disse que o PT com a aliança com o PMDB iria crecer em todo o Estado, ser de fato valorizado. E pra piorar teve uma promessa feita de que em fevereiro a Secretaria de Educação voltaria para o PT,já estamos em maio, PROMESSA NÃO CUMPRIDA. E ainda temos que ver essa Olga Simão que não tem um pingo de competencia ocupando um espaço que foi prometido ao Partido. Será que não seria o caso de avaliarmos nossa aliança com o PMDB? Between me and my husband we’ve owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I’ve settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.
