De acordo com a publicação, Nabiha Al Ghanem “não pôde suportar a notícia e desmaiou”, após o anúncio da morte do fundador da Al-Qaeda, executado no Paquistão pelas forças especiais americanas no dia 2 de maio.
Nabiha Al Ghanem, de cerca de 70 anos de idade, faleceu pouco depois “devido a um acidente vascular cerebral” em um hospital de Latakia, na Síria.
Osama Bin Laden casou-se com uma de suas filhas, Najwa, prima de origem síria, quando ele tinha apenas 17 anos. O casal teve 11 filhos, segundo o periódico. Najwa Al Ghanem saiu do Afeganistão poucos dias antes do ataque de 11 de setembro e 2001 e atualmente mora na Síria, acrescenta o jornal.
Três das mulheres de Bin Laden e uma dezena de filhos foram morar com ele na casa de Abbottabad, no Paquistão, onde ele foi morto.
